About Rocky Grove Baptist Church
Brief History
- Rocky Grove Baptist Church was founded in 1812.
- Our current church was built in 1951 using some of the timbers from the old building.
- The brethren successfully floored the church with hardwood in 1953.
- The back Sunday school rooms were added and the road leading into the church was rocked and tarred in 1954. Also in 1954, the church records were sent to Furman University for copying and preserving, and a piano was purchased.
- The educational wing was added in 1966. In 1967, the sanctuary was re-arranged, the walk in front paved, and yards landscaped.
- During July of 1968, central heat and air replaced the window units and gas space heaters. In 1971, the exterior of the church was remodeled and two new rooms were added to the front of the sanctuary.
- The baptismal pool and steeple were installed in 1972.
- In 1976, a parsonage was built in Salley, South Carolina.
- A new Ford van was purchased in 1986 to transport the various mission organizations and their outreach
to the community and nursing homes.
- In 1992, another Ford van was purchased because of the growth of the church. An outside cookhouse was added in 1992 behind the sanctuary.
- In 1998, the sanctuary was completely renovated and expanded to double the seating capacity, and in 2001
a new fellowship hall was completed. We are now excited about the opportunity that is set
before us. Let us continue to work together to the honor and glory of our Lord.
